Operator

Avena Foods is actively seeking an Operator. Reporting directly to the Production Manager and supervised by the Head Miller, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a niche market oat processing plant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates core competency in grain processing/milling, to optimize processing equipment operations and meet production goals.
• Works with the Shift Miller, Head Miller, and Production Manager to develop operating goals and objectives.
• Plans, organizes, and physically performs the day-to-day processing/milling, sanitation, and reporting activities
• Ensures safe, effective and efficient operation of the processing/milling equipment through following SOP’s, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), HACCP program and other select operating initiatives
• Works with the Shift Miller and Head Miller to ensure customer satisfaction by meeting defined specifications and quality standards through the processing/milling or packaging of pure oat consumer-ready products
• Ensures positive working relationships while addressing food safety, plant operation, staff conduct, and environmental stewardship
• Submits recommendations for facility enhancements, production reports, and other administrative documents as required

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills & Behaviour):

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Five years of processing/milling experience (grain milling experience preferred)
• Demonstrated ability in processing/milling, problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills directed at production, safety, quality, and environmental control
• Experience in establishing and maintaining working relationships with co-workers
• Ability to conduct oneself with good work ethics, displaying mature judgment, making decisions in a timely manner, while sustaining a high level of energy, drive and personal commitment to the job.
• Physical duties include equipment operation, lifting, bending and exposure to grain dust/milling environment
