Maintains a documented system of financial accountability based on accounting policies and procedures. Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports. Oversees the operations of accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving financial accountability and stability.
Major functions/ responsibilities
Transactions
• Documents financial transactions by entering account information into computerized data base
• Maintains the chart of accounts
• Maintains an orderly accounting filing system
• Maintains a system of controls over accounting transactions
• Ensures that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner, verifying documentation
• Ensures that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
• Ensures that accounts receivable are collected promptly
• Secures financial information by completing data base backups
• Processes payroll in a timely manner
• Ensures that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
• Ensures that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
• Maintains financial security by following internal controls and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential

Reporting
• Issues timely and complete financial statements
• Prepares monthly financial reports as required by all funding agencies, administrative staff and board of directors
• cting, analyzing, and summarizing account information
• Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit and preparation for the 990
• Provides for a system of monthly management cost reports for each department
• Complies with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
• Calculates budget variances and reports significant issues to management
• Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options
• Participations on the administrative team, attending meetings and making recommendations to improve financial reporting and accountability
• Other duties as assigned

Educational/ Other Requirements

BA Degree in Accounting
At least five years experience in accounting practice preferably working in a non-profit
Attention to detail and deadline oriented
Excellent organizational and time management skills
