CANADIAN SPORT SCHOOL COACH INTERN

 

Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our team as a Canadian Sport School (CSS) Coach Intern. The intern will be active in the daily training environment to provide support to the CSS Coach by assisting with supervision of athlete training, athlete testing, data collection, and other administrative duties required for successful CSS program implementation. This opportunity will provide the intern with an introduction to practical S&C fundamentals and the chance to apply those skills in a practical, high performance environment. The intern will receive mentorship for the CSS Coach and engage with staff across multiple disciplines within the Institute.

 The ideal candidate has an understanding of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, is committed to learning S&C best practices, and has a passion for high performance sport.

 This is an internship opportunity spanning the duration of the secondary school academic year commencing August, 2020 and concluding June, 2021.

KEY DELIVERABLES AND SPECIFIC DUTIES:

 ORE SUPPORT DUTIES:

1.     Contribute to the CSS high performance daily training environment (DTE) by assisting with delivery of technical program including, but not limited to, DTE set-up/take-down, technical supervision, video recording, and equipment maintenance.

2.     Assist with athlete testing, data collection, and data management.

3.     Attend scheduled meetings and mentoring sessions.

4.     Support CSS Teacher with weekly performance seminar delivery.

5.     Support delivery of various events including, but not limited to,

 OTHER DUTIES:

1.     Any other tasks assigned by CSI Pacific as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

 REQUIRED:

·       Bachelor’s Degree (completed or in-progress) in human performance domain.

 

DESIREABLE:

·       Experience working in the Canadian sport system or experience as a high performance athlete or coach.

·       Familiarity within a sport performance laboratory.

·       NSCA-CSCS certification (or working toward certification).

·       NCCP Coach Certification/Education, preferably in Athletics, Olympic Weightlifting, or Gymnastics.

·       First Aid certification.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

 ·       Basic understanding of LTAD model and sport performance pathway.

·       Competency using full suite of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)

·       Familiarity with data management and database use.

·       Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

·       Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with various types of clients.

·       Knowledge of modern communication channels and how to best utilize each.

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·       Willingness to learn and adapt to change.

·       Passion for high performance sport.

 WORK LOCATION: CSI Pacific Victoria Campus @ PISE (4371 Interurban Road, Victoria BC).

 COMPENSATION: An honorarium will be provided following successful completion of internship.

 WORKING CONDITIONS:

·       We are looking for interns to commit to either the morning cohort, afternoon cohort, or a blend of both depending upon availability. The intern schedule will generally follow the weekly timetable below with minimal variation:


Monday*

10:00am – 11:30am

1:00pm – 2:30pm


Tuesday

8:00am – 9:45am

12:45pm – 2:30pm


Wednesday

8:00am – 11:00am

12:30pm – 3:30pm


Thursday

8:00am – 9:45am

12:45pm – 2:30pm



 

 

 


*Participation at Monday Sport Performance Seminars are supplementary to DTE role and are not necessarily mandatory for interns to attend.
